I remember years ago, sitting in my car with one of the local playboys. He was trying to level-up on me so I would feel as though he was too good to take me/us seriously (and then do the most to win him over.. as if.) He was spewing his accomplishments and how perfect the girls were he found attractive (all opposite my kinda country)... mind you we were in MY car and HE asked ME to meet with him to chat... Anywayz, after sometime I began to get tired of his subtle attack and became bored with his mind tricks- I was over it and no longer found myself attracted to him. Then, he made a statement about a women's choice in music equating to her value (yada yada), so I pulled out my DAVID BANNER cd and played the perfect song for the occasion. Hahahaha! Whew! I recall lots of bouncing in my seat (Circa Mystikal 'Bouncing Back') and pounding on my roof ("Mayne", #soHtown.).... Had to let that young man know..... had to 'Put it in his face ta get that -ish understood!' ...his loss.
Fast forward a decade-------> This is the first song on Mr. Banner's new album, "The God Box". Just received my iTunes download and all the tracks are jammin- as to be expected from this producer/rapper. I'm glad he stepped out the trendy 'Trap Rap' formula and committed to stretching his creativity. The more an Artist infuses themselves into their Art, the better. I image some folks may take longer than others to embrace the electric guitars, the symphonic interludes and overall poetic feel of the album... Poe Babies, they better catch up!!! While there is still Banner's distinct Southern sound, there is so much more to this album. I imagine he had fun during the creative process because this project sounds infused with passion for his craft and for his fans. Compounded by the beautifully aesthetic Visuals accompanying each selection, this album is a cool glass of (alkaline) water. I foresee heavy rotation in my hoo'ride. And if anybody needs to be re-aligned there are plenty of tracks to assist-- "My Uzi" being the first that comes to mind... POW! #TheGreatWork
