Its been too long since we've been camping. Winter is always hard because the ground is too cold for Baby to sleep in the tent, even with the air mattress. I wont risk it. So we wait until the Earth warms. Ive been thinking about perhaps reserving a cabin so we can still get into the woods while having heat during the night... Hmmmm, something to consider.
I recall Merriweather discussing Pine Trees in his foraging classes- Pine tea, roasted young Pine cones, powdered sap-bark for flour, and medicinal sap. So I was aware Pines are poisonous. Then I came across the aromatherapy of Evergreens- I used the essential oil and scented candles to power me through the lead-up to #NiaKwanzaaBoogie. To me, it was the next best thing to actually being in the woods.
Spruce Tea. I was gifted a tree for Xmas. Beautiful, fragrant, deep green and grounding. Instead of displaying it in my apartment, I placed it outside. Its been out there since late November and seems to be okay. I dunno how it works? The lumberjacks (or whoever cuts the trees for Xmas consumption) severed it from it's roots, so I would think its technically dead? No shedding tho. No browning either. No signs of death. Still fragrant and standing tall... I can't just throw it away. (I plan to push it in the corner and hope Management doesn't pressure me to remove it.) Im searching for crafty uses of the tree so it wouldnt have been cutdown in vain..... Soapbox or Nah? Do I need to write a PSA on how decorating Xmas Trees is bad for the environment? Please help me enlighten folks.
Anyways, Blue Spruce Tea. Its late night-early morning Saturday and Ive been working on some things . Riding this New Years wave and recommitting to #healthwealthandknowledgeofself. Was sipping on Dandelion tea and decided to throw in some needles. BlueSpruce does not make a subtle tea; the flavor is distinct and strong. I didn't add any sweeter. I dont think I would like this blend sweet. I prefer earthy flavors with minimal seasonings as not to distract my palate. Yum. Acquired tastes.
I plan to dry out a few branches and store the needles for future workings. Will prolly make door wreaths too. Gonna checkout Pinterest and see what those ladies recommend also. For now, I also have a Winter Prosperity Tea. Osanyin would be proud.
