Purchased this today. Saw it yesterday and knew I needed 2 smell. Decided to test it out and return it if it wasnt a signature smell 4 me. It isnt, lol.
Its very pleasant and feminine; flirty. Brings 2 mind girly, sex kitten lingerie. Conversations by candlelight. I can only imagine what the 1853 true scent smelled like because this isnt the identical recipe or quality of ingredients. Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Sandlewood, Cinnamon and hint of orange. The ingredients used for the Empress were pure, uncut. Fresh oils and resins. The storebrand is far from the grandeur prepared at the request of Napoleon for the Celtic-Spanish Countess of Teba. My gosh.
So using E.O. and blending them myself would fare better because the (unnecessary) filler chemicals can be avoided, plus I can make it a bit stronger. Im one of those people that likes to repeatedly smell my own perfume. I walk around sniffing my arms all day like a weirdo.
I will be returning Samsara tomorrow. While grazing through the aisles at TJ Maxx the name called 2 me, "Samsara." I knew it would be a treat because Guerlain slays. Viewed the website and was drawn into the storyline:
"Jean-Paul Guerlain created Samsara for the woman of his life. His only indications were sandalwood and jasmine, which the "Lady of Samsara" particularly liked. Jean-Paul Guerlain travelled to India many times to acquire the purest sandalwood and a jasmine used only for religious offerings until then."
Wow! This perfume is 'smell mapping'. Thats probably not a thing yet I ran with the comparison to sound mapping. Samsara is a scented time capsule of aristocratic Europe, mid-19th Century. Hints of Asia. Now that Ive smelled the Eau de toilette (toilet water, lol), I will look for the Perfume & share my 2 cents.
Update- 2 hours later:
It's taking about 2 hours to prepare this blogpost. As Im typing and meditating on my content, the fragerance is alluing. It must be mixing with my natural F.U.N.K!
Cue the music.
Granted, I used the vaporizer like I was blessing myself with Holy Water. So that could be part of it, I might have underestimated the first notes. Plus the a.c. is off so my body temperature may be warming. Alls I know is now I needs to smell the perfume and discover how it works with my skunk-funk. Definitely not an office perfume. Moreso a fragrance 4 evoking passion & inspiration. #slay
Like many of her contemporaries, Empress Eugénie was interested in past styles and harboured a particular interest for two historical women: Empress Joséphine for family and dynastic reasons (she was her husband’s grandmother), and Queen Marie-Antoinette on a more personal level. She restored and refurbished the Château of Malmaison purchased by the Emperor in 1861, and the Petit Trianon in view of the Universal Exhibition of Paris due to open its doors in 1867.
[Empress] Eugénie, however, looked forward, rather than back. The importance of Worth, for instance, wasn't so much his fashions, as what he did with them. He founded haute couture. However, he could only do so with the patronage of Eugénie, an empress certainly, but before even that an arbiter of fashion.
