Kicking off this Thursday, the first day of Autumn: *Children's Shoe Drive.*
It has been brought to my attention that many of the families whose homes were flooded, lost their shoes to the street waters. While clothes may have been salvaged and washed, shoes were destroyed by prolonged submergence in water. For families already living modestly, financial priorities are focused on redeeming lost wages, home renovations and transportation. Cute clothes and fly shoes are not high on their lists. Children's feet grow quickly... Last week I dealt with two cases of young children wearing inappropriate footwear (too small and unsanitary) due to not having resources to purchase shoes. Therefore, Circle Sisters 13 has decided to focus our community service this season on providing shoes to families that need a little extra benevolence from their community. We are asking for new and gently used shoes, Girls/Boys and All Sizes.
We will pick-up donations on Sundays during the Fall season (September 22- December 22). Please text or message your available time to meet: Keshia K Boogie Shantae, 713-338-9343. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org. We will confirm via text, email or phone call (if we have questions.)
"Animal familiars are fellow travelers on this earthly plane. Nothing more. Nothing less. Certain spirits will return to us time and again because we are as familiar to them as they are to us. We are drawn together. Perhaps they are connected to a higher existence and were sent here to keep an eye on us and keep us company. Perhaps they are spirits which were drawn to us and our myriad possibilities. Or perhaps they’re just exceptionally aware animals. It is, after all, only human arrogance that reduces intellect and reasoning to traits only humans can possess, however much evidence might accumulate which proves such acumen rather common in the animal kingdom. We’ve known human beings who were dumb as rocks. Is it really that much of a stretch to conceive that there might be exceptionally bright and intelligent animals?" http://www.pagancentric.org
I didn't see Katydid today. She must have moved on. Ate up all my Basil and Sweet Pepper and is now on to greener pastures. Lol. I know she was just a bug, but I watched her grow from a tiny green cricket to a big 'ole, long-legged Katydid. We even weathered The Kraken together. Tryna to get to know her better, I learned more about insect molting stages and camouflage. Did you know Katydids 'sing'? Yep, all this NTR right outside my bedroom window. I didn't want to desecrate our temporary symbiosis so I delayed sharing this post with the world. I saw it sacred to have Katydid choose my potted garden to live and grow. Hey, as a Nature Chick this is a big deal. I didnt want to jinx it by speaking about it. I found joy in seeing Katydid walk on and eat my plants.. I have plenty Basil. (Sidenote: I do see how a cluster of them would wipe out a small garden. For her to morph into full size required allat of leaves.) So, now that we're no longer cohabitating, Im sharing part of her magick with my blog readers.
Color- Green, from www.inspectorinsight.com:
In many pagan traditions, green is the colour of the Earth goddess and for ancient Egyptians, green was the colour of Osiris and of unripened corn (which later turned to gold). Osiris was the god of vegetation as well as being the god of the Underworld. For the Egyptians, green was the colour of good health, regeneration and rebirth. Green was also the colour of the Greek goddess Persephone for the same reasons (she was associated with Spring and at the same time Queen of the Underworld). For Christians, vernal green symbolises immortality, life, hope and the triumph of Spring over the the barrenness of Winter (and a symbol of Easter and Christ’s resurrection). It also symbolises initiation and good works and was the colour of the Trinity from Medieval times. However, pale green is associated with the Satan, evil and death and Lucifer is still often portrayed in green (when not in red). A the same time, emeralds are the precious stones of Popes and green is the colour of Irish Catholics. Green is also commonly the colour of the Holy Grail.
Green is the sacred colour of Islam, being associated with Mohammed’s cloak (Mohamed’s family are referred to as ‘the four under a cloak’ and associated with the four pillars of Islam). Green is the emblem of salvation and the colopur of the most highly prized riches (spiritual as well as material) including the family. It is the colour of Paradise (which consists of lush green gardens in contrast to the dry brown lands of the Middle East). After the last evening prayer, it used to be common to recount stories of the ‘green man’ (Al Khidr) who is the patron of travellers and a symbol of luck around the Middle East.
Green is the colour of the creative spark and is the most restful colour (allegedly you will sleep better in a green painted room). Sleep is always a good to crack a problem or find fertile territory for new ideas. It is also the colour of bile and envy. Green eyes are often associated with mystical powers, as well as jealousy as in Othello’s “green eyed monster“.
In fairy tales and mythology, green is often the colour of fairies, monsters and dragons (as well as the devil). Modern Chinese dragons are also green (but a little more benevolent than those of Western mythology).
