Discovering Texas: Dallas

I never knew Texas was majestic. Thats the best way I can describe Her. I recall geography classes giving me boring lessons of flatlands and duststorms. I was betrayed by their books. Then as a child travelling to and from 'the country' all I saw was hundreds of miles of forests. I couldnt appreciate the forests for the hours of endless trees, sitting in the backseat of the car, wishing I was already at Grandma's. I saw no beauty in the land of my own birthright.

Then one day I changed. I began to feel a nagging desire to reconnect with Nature. I suppose my connection with Nature and to my environment has always been in me but modernity is a fierce competitor. Or, perhaps a seed was planted while I was living in California. Cali living was most of my food coming from the weekly, local Farmer's Market, me riding with hundreds of cyclists through the streets of downtown San Francisco in Critical Mass, and the first time in my adult life siteseeing and exploring true mountians and valleys. It was a transformative experience.

When I returned to Houston I wanted to duplicate my new lifestyle. So I sought out the Markets, which I found were more exclusive- held in the middle of the week and during the middle of the day... times only housewives and college kids were able to juggle. A little disappointing but our neighborhood Supermarkets also carry local produce, it just takes knowing which store carries what and mapping out a plan (and frequenting 'other' neighborhood markets.... on the West Side of town, lol.) Critical Mass is last Fridays of the month.

And mountains and valleys? I would learn that Texas has valleys and vineyards and prairies and Pineywoods and Bayous and Rivers and sacred Mounds. We might even have mountains, I wouldnt doubt it. Joining a Camping Group has allowed me access to some secluded sceneries. Ive been places so magnificent that I momentarily forgot I was still in Texas. We have Vineyards outside Austin, so Im thinking there must be mountains...

Which is why Im trippin. I realize now that once off the beaten path, Texas offers much. I almost said 'once out the city' but thats not entirely true. For instance, Dallas has many faces. Ive always thought of it as Oz. Lol. And the more I learn about the land of Dallas/Fort Worth, the more I understand why I discern Her as such. One location in Dallas will have you feeling depressed and oppressed, while another location will empower you towards your personal best... depends on where you are oriented. I would make the hypothesis most cities are like that. With secluded parks, protected sites, off-map terrains, sacred places and disenfranchised districts...

I received much from the city of Dallas and I didnt want to leave. I plan to return soon. This trip was for a Dance Conference, to exercise one of my crafts. However next time will be purely to sightsee. I need more time in her many museums and public places. Plus I want to treat my daughter to Her family attractions. I also want to stay in an artsy hotel.

I appreciate Houston also. I had to molt first tho. Get some of my outdated programming up-to-speed. Saturn in Capricorn has been getting my mind right across the board tho, lol. I can appreciate Houston in her Glory. I prolly wont live here much longer tho, Im ready for a change of scenery. However Im here now, so striving to sync with the warm currents... #SoHtown is my modus operandi. Until its time for another adventure.
